Privacy Policy

The short version

  • Larken has no accounts. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number or any other personal information.
  • Larken never stores your audio. It's held in memory only until it's transcribed.
  • Your recordings go directly from your iPhone to the AI provider that transcribes them. Larken's servers never receive your audio or your text.
  • History is text only, encrypted on your iPhone, for as long as you choose.
  • Settings › Privacy & security › Request log lists every request Larken makes.
  • No ads, no tracking, and we don't sell or share data.

1. Who we are

Larken (the app for iPhone and Apple Watch, the Larken keyboard, and getlarken.com) is provided by Randhawa Systems Inc. (“we,” “us”). Contact us at support@getlarken.com.

2. What we don't collect

Larken doesn't collect your name, email, contacts, location, keystrokes, the text around your cursor in other apps, or your audio. It only reads the clipboard when you tap Copy or Paste yourself.

3. Recordings

Larken only records after you tap the microphone, and stops when you tap Stop, when you pause for a few seconds (if that setting is on), or at the length limit you set. iOS shows an orange dot whenever the microphone is in use.

Larken never stores your recordings. Audio is held in memory only until it's transcribed, and it's never written to your iPhone or sent to Larken's servers. Your audio provider processes it under its own policy, described below.

4. How dictation works, by plan

To turn speech into text, Larken sends each recording, and then the transcript with the writing style you chose, directly from your iPhone to an AI provider over an encrypted connection:

  • Your own key, OpenAI: audio and the transcript go directly from your iPhone to your own OpenAI account, under your agreement and data settings with OpenAI. See OpenAI's data controls.
  • Your own key, ElevenLabs: audio goes directly to your own ElevenLabs account. ElevenLabs retains data by default on standard accounts, and its Zero Retention Mode is available to Enterprise customers. If you've also added an OpenAI key, the transcript goes to OpenAI for formatting. See the ElevenLabs privacy policy.
  • Full service: audio goes directly from your iPhone to OpenAI, using a short-lived key issued by Larken's server. Larken's server never receives audio or text. OpenAI states that API data isn't used to train its models by default, and that it may retain some API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, depending on the endpoint. See OpenAI's data controls.

Before sending anything to an AI provider for the first time, Larken asks your permission and names the provider. You can withdraw it anytime in Settings › Privacy & security › AI providers allowed, and Larken will ask again before its next request to that provider.

6. What stays on your iPhone

  • Text history: finished text is encrypted on your iPhone, excluded from iCloud Backup and never synced. You choose how long it's kept: off, 7 days, 30 days (the default), or until you delete it.
  • API keys: if you use your own key, it's stored in your iPhone's Keychain and only sent to that provider. It's never sent to us and never placed in the keyboard's shared storage.
  • Styles, templates and settings stay on your iPhone.
  • Request log: the date and provider of each request Larken has made (the most recent 1,000). It never contains your audio or text.

Settings › Erase Larken Data removes all of this from your iPhone. Deleting the app does the same.

7. The Larken keyboard

The Larken keyboard asks for Full Access so it can reach the Larken app to start dictation and insert the text. Typing works without it. The keyboard doesn't record, store or send what you type. Spelling suggestions use Apple's on-device dictionary.

8. Apple Watch

Recordings made on Apple Watch are sent to your paired iPhone over Apple's WatchConnectivity connection, then handled exactly like recordings made on the iPhone. The finished text is shown on your watch and saved to History on your iPhone.

9. What our servers process

Larken's servers exist only for subscriptions and Full service. They never receive your recordings or text. When you subscribe, the app creates a random identifier with no link to your name, email or Apple Account details, and Apple attaches it to your purchase. Against that identifier our servers store:

  • Subscription details from Apple (product, status, renewal and expiry dates, Apple's transaction ID) and Apple's subscription notifications (type and time), to know which plan you're on.
  • For Full service: the IDs and expiry times of the short-lived OpenAI keys issued to your iPhone, and your usage in dollars as reported by OpenAI (amounts, not content), to apply the allowance.

We never see your payment details; Apple handles all payments. Our servers run on Supabase in the United States. Like most online services, our hosting providers keep short-lived technical logs, which can include IP addresses, to operate and secure the service. The app shows a Support ID made from your random identifier. If you include it when you contact us, we can find your subscription record; it can't identify you or be used to access the service.

10. No ads, no tracking, no data sale

The Larken app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. We don't track you across apps or websites, and we don't sell or share personal information.

11. This website

getlarken.com is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site. No ads, no trackers. This website counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless analytics tool that collects no personal data. The site sets no cookies and has no forms that collect personal information.

12. Retention and deletion

Recordings are never retained by Larken. Text history is kept on your iPhone for the period you choose. Subscription records are kept while your subscription is active and afterwards as long as needed for accounting, legal and fraud-prevention purposes. Full service usage totals reset with each allowance period.

13. Your rights and choices

You can delete your history in the app, delete your key in Settings › Provider keys (and revoke it with your provider), withdraw permission for any AI provider, and contact us. Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information. Because there's no account, we hold no personal profile to export. To have your server records deleted, email us with your Support ID. To cancel a subscription, use Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your iPhone.

14. Children

Larken isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

15. Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app before they take effect.
